We are a community-based family medicine residency program based at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana. Our clinical educational program achieves excellence through our outstanding clinical faculty and staff, practical, real-world patient care in a full-service family medicine center, and clinical rotations throughout our tertiary care medical center.

Program Type: Community hospital-based at Rapides Regional Medical Center, and sponsored by LSU Health Shreveport.
Unopposed Program: There are no other residencies in the primary hospital.
Call Schedule: Weeknight call is covered by residents on night float rotations. Residents on other services provide weekend coverage, resulting in a call frequency of 1:10 (PGY-1) and 1:20 (PGY-2 and PGY-3). All call is in-house.
Resident-to-Faculty Ratio: The resident-to-faculty ratio in the Family Medicine Center ranges from 2:1 to 4:1.
Procedures Taught in the Clinic: The Family Medicine Center is well-equipped and provides ancillary services such as EKG, X-ray, lab, pulmonary function testing, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, 24-hour Holter monitoring, 30-day event monitoring, fetal non-stress testing, and more. Joint injection and aspiration, reduction and casting of closed fractures, and obstetric ultrasound are also performed in the FPC. The nearby Procedure Suite offers such services as EGD, colonoscopy, colposcopy, cervical cryotherapy, dermatologic surgery, vasectomy, neonatal circumcision, and treadmill ECG.
Salary and benefits: The base salary and benefits are determined by the Louisiana State Legislature on an annual basis and apply to all state-funded programs throughout Louisiana. Residents in our program receive additional incentives through our supporting hospital, Rapides Regional Medical Center, which can be discussed individually with applicants.
